Letter from VT Commission on International Trade and State Sovereignty to Federal Congressional Delegation

April 18th, 2007

The Honorable Patrick Leahy
United States Senator
Post Office Box 933

The Honorable Bernard Sanders
United States Senator
1 Church Street, 2nd floor
Burlington, Vermont 05401

The Honorable Peter Welch
Representative in Congress
30 Main Street, 3rd floor, Suite 350
Burlington, Vermont 05401

Dear Senator Leahy, Senator Sanders, and Representative Welch:

Thank you for the opportunity to meet and share our concerns regarding the proposed new Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Republic of Korea. The State of Vermont supports efforts by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) to open Koreaís markets to Vermont goods and services. However, we are deeply concerned that provisions in the proposed pharmaceutical chapter of the US-Korea agreement could undermine Vermontís sustained effort to manage drug purchasing costs on behalf of our stateís residents and to control costs in the Vermont Medicaid program...
